What ‘Wisdom’, the albatross that just turned 70, has done is just extraordinary

Wisdom, a 70 year-old Albatross!

Birds are something special. I always get excited when I see a flock dancing in the sky. But what ‘Wisdom’, the albatross that just turned 70, has done is just extraordinary.

Meet ‘Wisdom‘ the albatross, who has survived tsunamis, outlived most of her mates, and raised over 40 chicks, is pushing the boundaries of what we thought birds could do.

About Wisdom

Wisdom hatched in or around 1951. In 1956, at the estimated age of five, she was tagged by scientists as #Z333 at the Midway Atoll National Wildlife Refuge for study, but then returned to the wild rather than being kept in captivity.

The person to attach the first tag was Chandler Robbins, who was a senior scientist at the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Birds are banded so that they can be studied, including their locations, flight patterns, longevity, and a myriad of other data that can be collected.

For the sake of Wisdom and all birds out there

For the sake of wisdom and all birds out there, let’s all be more careful with how we interact with our environment. You wouldn’t want ‘Wisdom’, a mother of over 40 chicks and having survived tsunamis, choke on some plastic packaging, would you?

Let’s ditch plastic altogether or whenever we can so we make sure that no more bird will choke on it. It is highly likely that some plastic you consumed (plastic bags, food packaging, etc) is now floating in the ocean somewhere.

We, at Drawing United, are a bunch of artists raising awareness for environmental issues such as plastic pollution. Alex Leadbeater is doing just that in her latest online campaign.

Help us raising awareness by sharing this post

By Pierrick Senelaer

Since 2015, I have had the chance to have my own art studio in Stoke Newington (London).

Environmental issues such as Climate Change or Plastic Pollution, are something I feel concerned about. Therefore, I’ve launched DRAWING UNITED.

Drawing United is a collective of artists, started off by Pierrick Senelaer, who cares for our environment and planet and who want to use their art and creativity to raise awareness and/or support a good cause.
